Navy Paintings

The artist served in the U.S. Navy from 1995 to 2018, serving in San Diego, CA; Ingleside, TX; Sasebo, Japan; Newquay, UK; Seal Beach, CA; Manama, Bahrain; and Mechanicsburg, PA. He started painting 6 years into his career, and continued every chance that he got. Thus, he painted in unusual places, like on a New Zealand command ship off the coast of New Zealand; and at the Bahraini Contemporary Artists Association; and at coffee shops in places as varied as Canada, Thailand, South Korea, Dubai, etc. As always, he painted what he saw as best as his skills at the time could handle.

An Old Warrior (30-in x 20-in)

Artist Jacob Mazurek’s work, *An Old Warrior* (30-in x 20-in), depicts the USS Guardian (MCM-5), one of only two Avenger-class minesweepers to locate live mines during Desert Storm, shown moored in Ominato, Japan in 2012. Less than a year later, she ran hard aground in the Sulu Sea, where she was decommissioned and destroyed. This painting honors the ship’s crew who continued service aboard the USS Warrior (MCM-10), where the artwork was hung as a tribute to their legacy. Guardian had been the artist's first ship (1996-1998).
